I am an assistant professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  I teach introductory, advanced, and graduate courses in media and cultural studies.  My research focuses on television history and criticism. 

My book, Wallowing in Sex: The New Sexual Culture of 1970s American Television, was published in 2007 by Duke University Press.  I am also the  co-editor of Undead TV: Essays on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, published in 2007 by Duke, as well.  My work has appeared in a number of scholarly journals, as well, including Critical Studies in Media Communication, Television and New Media, and The Velvet Light Trap.

I received my Ph.D. from the Department of Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002.  I now live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with my husband, Michael Z. Newman and our 3 year old son, Leo.
